A
Ramadan tradition in Istanbul’s Old Town...
Experience a traditional
breaking of the fast in Istanbul’s old town...
Kalyon
Hotel, known to Istanbulites as “the old town classic” is featuring special
iftar menus throughout the month of Ramadan (October 5-November 2 in
2005)....
The
traditional iftar, starts with the breaking of the fast with dates, olives,
cheeses, freshly baked pita bread and Kalyon Hotel’s special home made jams.
Next, carts go from table to table, serving a variety of traditional soups
such as lentil, chicken noodle, or tomato. |

Soup is followed by börek, traditional Turkish pastries filled with
cheese and basil, or spinach. Main courses are selected from
traditional Ottoman dishes including iç pilavlı kuzu dolması (stuffed
lamb with rice pilaf) and Hünkarbeğendi (an eggplant and meat dish,
which literally means “The Sultan liked it”). The iftar ends with a
dessert buffet featuring Ramadan classics like güllaç, and popular
Turkish desserts such as baklava, vişneli ekmek kadayıfı, şekerpare,
ekmek kadayıfı, lokma, tulumba tatlısı, baked quince and pumpkin
served with cream, as well as fresh fruits.

Golden Men Contest begins its 23. year
11
Golden Men Contest which has started 22 years ago by Turkish Sports Agency
will start its 23. year.
Turkey’s famous medical
establishment, MEMORIAL Hospital, sponsored the contest with Ihsan
Kalkavan’s offer.
First meeting of the
organization will take place in September at Kalyon Hotel. Details of the
contest will be announced in coming days |

Camii complex. Instead of wide variety of spices coming from all around the
